We set up our place in Village Balia, right in Mallapharsen Nagar. It’s close to the National Highway and near that Kolamba International School. We have the sortex machines here, which are a bit more modern than the old mills, but it’s still a lot of work. The machines hum all day long as they sort through the grains. We spend a lot of time watching the screens and making sure the settings are right. It’s a big building, but it feels small when it’s full of stock. Being near the highway is good for the big lorries coming through. We have a small team of workers from the nearby village who help with the loading. It’s not always quiet here, especially with the school traffic nearby. We focus on getting the stones and the bad grains out. Sometimes the power flickers and we have to restart everything, which can be a real headache. We aren't big on talking ourselves up. We just do the processing and send the bags on their way. The yard gets muddy when it rains, so we're always laying down gravel to keep the trucks from getting stuck. We have a small room where we drink tea and talk about the day’s work. It’s just a regular industry job. We go home tired but the work gets done. Most people find us because of the school landmark. It is just life here.
