Shiv Ston Art is located right on High Way Road, very close to the Bus Station in Babra. We have been working with stone here for a good number of years now. It is a dusty job and our hands are always rough from the tools, but we are used to it by now. Most people find us because they are passing through the station and see the statues or the carved pillars we keep out front. We don’t have a fancy showroom or a big office with air conditioning. It is just the workshop where we cut the stone and the yard where we keep the finished pieces. Sometimes we work on big projects for temples, and other times it is just a small nameplate for someone’s house. My brother helps me with the heavy lifting and we have a few local guys who come in when there is a big order. The noise of the hammers and the saws is constant throughout the day. We don't really do much advertising because the work speaks for itself when people walk by. The stone comes from the nearby quarries and we try to pick solid pieces that won’t crack under the chisel. It is hard work, especially when the sun is beating down on the yard, but we take our breaks under the shade of the big neem tree. We just keep things simple and focus on getting the shapes right for our customers.
