Mn Rice Mill is out in Babaji Pada, which is part of the Ratnagarh area. It’s a quiet place compared to the big cities, but the mill itself is always making a racket. We handle the local paddy, and the whole place smells like raw rice and earth. The building is a simple structure that’s seen better days, but it keeps the rain off the machines. We have a few guys who help with the heavy lifting, and we’re all usually covered in white dust by the end of the shift. It’s hard on the lungs if you don’t wear a cloth over your face. Life in Ratnagarh moves a bit slower, so we don't have the same pressure as city businesses, but when the harvest comes, we’re working until late at night. The electricity can be a bit hit-or-miss out here, so we often have to wait around for the power to come back before we can finish the day's batch. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just know where we are by the sound of the mill and the trucks parked outside. It’s a basic life, and the work is tiring, but it’s what we’ve always done. We just focus on getting the rice processed and into the bags without making too much of a mess of things. If the weather is bad, we can't dry the grain properly, which slows down everything for everyone.
