Sri Venkateswara Modern Rice Mill

Sri Venkateswara Modern Rice Mill is tucked away on Dresser Thottam Street in Arcot. We are at No.8, and it’s a pretty straightforward setup. We have the big machinery for processing the rice and a small space where we keep the finished bags ready for pickup. Arcot can get quite busy, but our street is a bit quieter than the main roads. We spend a lot of time maintaining the equipment because if one thing breaks, the whole line stops. It’s a bit of a struggle sometimes to keep everything running smoothly. We aren't a giant corporation, just a local mill trying to do a decent job for the folks who bring their grain to us. The work is physical and you definitely feel it in your back at the end of the day. We have some regular guys who help with the heavy lifting and stacking. Sometimes we have tea together in the shade when the machines are cooling down. It gets quite hot inside the building, especially during the summer months. We don't have air conditioning, just a couple of big industrial fans that mostly just move the warm air around. People stop by to check on their orders and we usually have a quick chat about how things are going in town. It is a simple life and we are quite content with the way things are going on Dresser Thottam Street. We keep it real.
