Our place is located out on the Bairarampur Barwa side, right along the Faizabad Road in Akbarpur. You can’t really miss it if you’re driving that way because of the tall silos and the sound of the rice dryers running. It’s a big spot but it feels smaller once you’re inside the gates with all the bags stacked up. We deal with a lot of rice every single day, and the smell of the husks is always in the air. The office is just a small room near the main entrance where the ledger stays on the desk. Most of the day is spent out on the floor or near the loading docks. Trucks come from all over the district to drop off raw paddy. We have to check every load to see how dry it is before it goes into the mill. The fans are always humming in the background, making it hard to hear sometimes. Some days the heat in Akbarpur is really tough, so we take breaks in the little patch of shade behind the warehouse. We’ve been here a long time and seen the road get much busier over the years. It’s just regular work, sorting and packing, making sure everything is ready for the next shipment. The guys on the floor know their jobs well, so things usually move along without too much trouble. We just try to keep the machinery in good shape and the yard clean enough for the trailers to turn around.
