A K Eat Udyog

Down in Village Devariya Lal, the air is usually thick with smoke from the kilns. That is where we are, A K Eat Udyog, right near the school. Being in Ambedkar Nagar, specifically the Alapur area, we are surrounded by fields and quiet roads. We make bricks out of the local earth. It’s a messy business. Every day involves a lot of mud and fire. We watch the weather closely because a sudden storm can ruin a whole batch of bricks that are out to dry. We aren't some big city company with a fancy website. Most of our work is done with our hands and a few simple tools. The workers live nearby and we all know each other well. When the bricks are ready, we stack them high near the entrance so the tractors can reach them easily. It’s a repetitive job, molding and burning, but it’s what we do. The noise from the school kids nearby is the only thing that breaks the silence of the village. We just try to get enough bricks made before the monsoon hits. It’s hard on the back, but it's okay. People come from all over the Tehsil to buy from us. We just keep the fire going and stay busy. The red color of the bricks matches the dirt on our boots at the end of the day.
