Ron Baker

If you head down to Village Dhulkote and look right behind the King Fisher Hotel, you will find where Ron Baker is set up. It is not a huge place, just a regular spot where we get on with the baking every day. The smell of bread usually hits you before you even see the door. We don't do much in the way of advertising because the locals already know where we are. Usually, we are up before most people are even thinking about waking up. The ovens take a while to get to the right temperature and there is always dough that needs kneading. Sometimes the flour gets everywhere, on our clothes and the floor, but that is part of the trade. We aren't trying to be a fancy cafe with soft music. It is more about getting the loaves out and making sure they are done right. We have a few benches and some old cooling racks that have seen better days, but they still work fine. People often stop by on their way to work or after staying at the hotel nearby. It is a simple setup. We use the ingredients we have and we don't try to overcomplicate the recipes. Sometimes we run out of things earlier than expected. That’s just how it goes when you’re a small operation in a village. We like the quiet of Dhulkote, even if the hotel brings in some noise now and then.
