Unilab Microscope Mfg. Co. is located at 5409, Cross Road No. 3, in the Punjabi Mohalla area of Ambala Cantt. If you know anything about Ambala, you know it’s famous for making scientific instruments, and we’ve been doing our part here for years. Our workshop is on a busy street where you can hear the sounds of the local market and traffic. Inside, we have long benches where the microscopes are put together piece by piece. There are lenses and metal tubes and tiny screws everywhere. It takes a lot of patience to get everything aligned right. The lighting is bright because you can’t see what you’re doing in the dark. We have a small team of people who have been doing this for a long time. They know how to handle the glass and the delicate parts without breaking anything. The building is an older style, typical for Punjabi Mohalla, with a lot of character and some narrow passages. We spend most of our time focused on the assembly and testing of the units. It’s a quiet kind of work compared to the noise outside on Cross Road. Sometimes we have to stay late to finish a batch, but we don’t mind much. It’s a specialized trade and we’re just glad to be doing it in a place with so much history. We just take it one lens at a time and try to keep our workspace as organized as possible.
