Shemrock

The school is located in Barara, which is part of the Ambala district. Shemrock is a place where you’ll mostly see younger children running around. The walls are painted with bright colors, though some of the paint is starting to peel near the corners. We have these small plastic chairs and tables that are just the right size for toddlers. Every morning, the parents drop their kids off at the gate, and there’s usually a bit of crying or some kids not wanting to let go of their lunch boxes. Once they get inside, they settle down with the toys and the blocks we have scattered around. It’s a lot of noise throughout the day, honestly. We spend a lot of time just managing the energy of forty or fifty little ones. There’s a small outdoor area where they can run for a bit if it’s not raining. Ambala can get quite cold in the winter, so we bundle them up in sweaters. We have a few assistants who help with the cleaning because kids tend to spill water or drop their crayons everywhere. It’s a simple setup. We don’t do anything too complicated, just basic numbers, letters, and plenty of singing. By the time 1:00 PM rolls around, the kids are tired and ready for their naps at home. It’s just how things go here in Barara every day of the week.
