Sawhney Sweets Shop

Our shop is right near the Halwai Bazar, down by the Old Sabzi Mandi. It is a busy spot, especially in the mornings when everyone is out getting their groceries. We have been here at Sawhney Sweets Shop for quite some time now. Every day starts really early, usually before the sun is even up, because the milk arrives and the cooking has to start. The smell of frying and sugar is just part of the air here. We make the usual stuff you would expect to find in a local sweet shop. My hands are usually sticky by ten in the morning. It is a family-run kind of place, so you will often see the same faces behind the counter. We do not have a big fancy storefront, just the glass cases filled with whatever we made fresh that day. During the festival seasons, it gets incredibly crowded and we barely have time to sit down. People come in for a quick snack or to buy boxes for their families. It is noisy because of the market nearby, but that is just how it is. We try to keep things simple and traditional. We aren't trying to reinvent anything, just making the same recipes that have worked for years. It is hard work being on your feet all day near the hot stoves, but we like seeing the regulars who stop by every afternoon for their favorite treats.
