Out here at the Industrial Estate in Ambala Cantt, things are pretty straightforward. We are at number 18, and you can usually hear us before you see us because of the heavy metal gates. It’s a big, open space with high ceilings that stay cold in the winter and way too hot in the summer. We have a couple of old fans that do their best, but they mostly just move the warm air around. Most of our day is spent checking the stock that comes in from the factories. We have rows and rows of metal shelving filled with various parts and equipment. It’s an old industrial area, so the roads are a bit bumpy and dusty. We don’t have a lot of walk-in customers because we’re tucked away in the estate, but the regulars know exactly where to find us. Usually, someone is out back loading a truck while someone else is at the front desk trying to find a misplaced file. It’s a lot of physical work, and our boots are always a bit dirty by the end of the shift. We’ve had the same sign out front for years and it’s starting to fade. Inside, there’s always the smell of grease and cardboard. It’s just how it is working in an industrial zone like this. We keep to ourselves and focus on getting the daily tasks done without much fuss. The neighbors are mostly metal shops and it stays busy until dark when the gates finally close.
