Kiran Saree

Our shop is right in the middle of the chaos at Old Sabzi Mandi in Sadar Bazar. If you know the area, you know it’s always crowded and noisy, especially near the police station. We are at 3784-3786, which is a couple of units we’ve knocked together over the years to fit all the sarees. Kiran Saree has been a fixture here for quite some time. It's not the kind of place where you find peace and quiet, that's for sure. There's always someone shouting outside or a cart trying to squeeze through the narrow lane. We spend our days unfolding different fabrics and showing them to whoever walks in. Sometimes the lights flicker when the load is high in the market, but we just keep going. It’s a tight space with shelves reaching all the way to the ceiling. We have to use a tall wooden ladder to get the stuff from the top, which is a bit of a workout. The tea guy comes around every couple of hours, which is the highlight of the afternoon. We don’t have fancy air conditioning, just a few old ceiling fans that hum. People come here because they know we've been here forever. It’s a bit dusty because of the main road, but we try to keep the sarees wrapped up. We're usually here until late evening when the market finally starts to thin out and the shops start pulling their shutters down one by one. It's just how this place is.
