About Gurley Architect – Architect, Interior & Structural Design in Ambala
I run Gurley Architect from my place at House No. 2013 on the Phase Line in Ambala City. It’s a residential area, so it’s mostly quiet except for the usual neighborhood sounds like the occasional street vendor. Working from a house means the office feels a bit more personal than a commercial building. I have one room dedicated to all my scales, pens, and my computer setup. There are stacks of drawings leaning against the bookshelves in the corners. I spend a lot of my time sketching out ideas or looking at how a wall might fit into a tight space. It’s a lot of solo work, though I do have people come by to discuss what they want to build. I often have to head out to different parts of Ambala to see how the work is progressing on-site. My car is usually full of site maps and some old hard hats. I don’t follow a strict corporate schedule. Sometimes I work late into the evening if a design is stuck in my head. The lighting in the room is a bit dim, but I have a good desk lamp that helps. It is a simple way of working. I don't have a fancy firm with a big lobby. It’s just a desk in a house where the architecture happens. People usually find me through word of mouth in the city. It's a small operation, just me and my drawings, trying to make things fit together right in the real world.
