Up here in Kuldeep Nagar, we’ve set up Baij Nath Asharfi Lall & Company in a spot that’s pretty easy to find once you’re in the Ambala area. It’s a bit of a trek for some, but for us, it’s just where we work every day. The name is long because it’s an old-style setup, carrying on names that mean something to the family. We don’t have a big team or a slick office. It’s more of a functional space where we keep the records and handle the goods. Most of the time, the floor is covered with items waiting to be sorted. We don’t spend money on expensive signs or anything like that. We just focus on getting the work done. The weather in Ambala can get quite sharp, so we’re usually bundled up in the winters while we sort through the stock. People around Kuldeep Nagar know us by now. We don’t do much advertising; word usually travels just by people talking. It’s a practical way to run things. We drink a lot of tea while we go over the numbers. The days can be long, especially when there’s a lot of paperwork to catch up on. We’ve been at this for a while and don’t plan on changing much. It’s a basic business, built on just showing up and doing what’s needed for the day. We are just regular people making a living in a quiet part of town.
