The Athawde Bazaar is always a bit chaotic, especially on the busy days when everyone is out shopping. We are located right near Mahesh Guest House, which is a good landmark if you are trying to find us through the crowds. Inside the shop, it smells like roasted nuts and dried raisins. We have these big sacks of almonds and cashews sitting on the floor, and we spend a lot of our time scooping them into smaller bags for people. The scales are almost always moving. It’s a simple setup with wooden shelves and some glass jars to show what we have in stock. We get a lot of travelers staying at the guest house who pop in to buy something to eat for their journey. It can get a bit cramped when three or four people are inside at once, but we manage. My hands usually feel a bit dusty from the shells and the packaging. We don’t have a fancy website or a big sign with neon lights. Most people just know us because they walk past every day on their way through the bazaar. We stay open late most nights because that’s when the market really comes alive. It is a lot of standing around and talking to customers about the different grades of pistachios or where the latest batch of walnuts came from. We like the energy of the market and the regular people we meet every day.
