Rajesh Studio is right on the Main Road near Smrt. It’s a small shop that’s usually a bit cramped with all the cameras and tripods. I spend a lot of time sitting at the small desk near the front, looking at photos. The walls are covered in some old pictures I’ve taken over the years. It’s not a modern gallery with white walls and bright lights. It’s just a workspace where I print out passport photos and family portraits. The Main Road is always noisy with traffic, and I can hear the buses going by all day long. I have to keep the glass clean because of all the dust that comes in from the street. People drop in to get their pictures taken for documents or just to see if their prints are ready. I don't use any fancy digital filters, just the basic stuff to make sure the light looks okay. Sometimes the printer jams and I have to spend an hour fixing it with a screwdriver. It’s just a regular studio near the Smrt landmark. I’ve been here for a while, so the locals know the spot. I don't have a big marketing plan. I just open the shutters in the morning and wait for customers. It is a slow process sometimes, but I like seeing the final photos come out of the machine. It’s my way of making a living right here on the Main Road. Every day is about the same, just taking shots and hoping the light is good enough to see.
