You can find Meerwal Blocks & Arts over at No. 3/331 in the Kala Kuan H.B. area. It’s a place where we spend a lot of time working with our hands. We do block printing and other art-related things, which is a bit of a slow process compared to modern machines. The workshop is usually filled with the smell of dyes and the sound of wooden blocks hitting fabric. We have been doing this in Alwar for a while, and it’s something we take our time with. It’s not a high-tech factory; it’s more about the skill of the person holding the block. Sometimes a print doesn't come out perfectly straight, or the dye takes longer to dry because the weather is humid, but that’s just how handiwork goes. We don't have a marketing team or a fancy showroom. Most of our work is spread out on long tables where we can see the patterns taking shape. People from the neighborhood often stop by to see what we are working on or to pick up something they ordered. It’s a very manual way of working, and it can be quite tiring on the back and shoulders, but we like the results we get. We don't talk about excellence or anything like that; we just focus on getting the colors right and making sure the fabric looks okay before it goes out the door to the person who bought it. It's just what we do here.
