Up here in Almora, the air is a bit thinner and the views are nice, but running Hi Tech Solar Systems in Bans Gali Bazaar has its own set of challenges. We’re located in a narrow alleyway where the shops are built right next to each other. We work with solar systems, which makes sense because the sun is pretty strong up in the hills. Most of the day is spent talking to people who want to stop relying so much on the old power lines that go out during the winter. We keep the solar water heaters and panels in a small storeroom that’s a bit of a squeeze. Carrying heavy equipment up and down these slopes is how we get our exercise. The bazaar is always full of people walking by, and we often stand outside for a minute to talk to the neighbors. It isn’t a high-tech looking place despite the name; it’s more of a practical workshop. We have some tools hanging on the wall and a desk that’s covered in scribbled notes and measurements. When someone buys a system, we figure out how to get it to their house, which sometimes involves a lot of walking if the road is narrow. We just do what needs to be done to get the lights on for people. It's a simple life and we like being part of the community here in this bazaar.
