Kerala Expedition

Our spot is located just west of Vazhichery here in Alappuzha. Being near the water is just a normal part of life for us. Kerala Expedition is not some big travel corporation with a glass building and a reception desk. We are just a local group of people who know the backwaters and the roads around here very well. Most of our day is spent talking to people about where they want to go or checking on the boats and the cars we use. The office is small and it usually has the smell of the rain or the nearby canal coming through the door. We have a few simple desks and some old chairs for when people stop by to chat. It gets very humid here, so we just keep the fans going and try to stay organized with our notes. We do not have a lot of fancy brochures; we mostly just talk to people and tell them what is worth seeing and what is too crowded this time of year. Sometimes the weather ruins the plans, like when the rain gets too heavy, and we have to shuffle things around at the last minute. That is just how it works in Kerala. We know the local drivers and the boatmen personally, so we just coordinate everything from this little office. It is a quiet life mostly, except when the busy tourist season kicks in. We have lived here all our lives and know the area inside out.
