Samrat Traders

The shop is located at Nakhas Kohna in Allahabad. It sits right on Nakhas Kohna Road in the area known as Johnstonganj. Every morning, the day starts with opening the large metal shutters that face the street. The traffic out on the road starts early, with cycle rickshaws and motorbikes making a lot of noise. The address is 211003. Inside, the space is filled with different items and wooden counters. There is a lot of dust that comes in from the road, so we have to clean the surfaces quite often. The air gets heavy when it is hot outside. We spend the day sitting behind the counter or moving boxes from the back. People from the neighborhood walk by on the pavement. Some stop to talk for a bit. The walls are painted a simple color and there are shelves that go all the way to the ceiling. We have some old fans that spin and help a little with the heat. The Johnstonganj area is always crowded, especially in the late afternoon. You can hear the sounds of horns and people shouting from the market nearby. It is a very busy part of Allahabad. We stay here until the evening when it is time to close up. The work is steady and the days are mostly the same. We just keep the shop going as best as we can in this spot. It’s a plain workspace for our daily trade.
