Running this place at Sarai Meer Khan keeps us pretty busy from the moment we unlock the doors. Being near the Chowk Chauraha means there is always a lot of noise and traffic outside, so we are used to the shouting and the horns honking. We deal with a lot of different goods and sometimes the floor is just covered in cardboard boxes that we haven't had time to move to the back yet. It is not a very big space but we make it work by stacking things high. My hands are usually a bit dirty from moving crates or checking the inventory lists. We get all sorts of people coming in from around Allahabad looking for specific items for their homes or shops. Sometimes we sit on the small stools near the front and drink tea while waiting for the next truck to arrive. It can get a bit confusing with so many different types of products, and our ledgers are full of scribbled notes and crossed-out numbers. We don't really have a system that looks professional, but we know exactly where the last batch of stock went. The walls could use a new coat of paint and the light flickers sometimes when the power acts up, but we have been here a long time now. It is just a place to do business and talk to the neighbors about the weather or the local news in the city.
