Nirala General Store

Nirala General Store has been sitting here at 284 Daraganj for quite some time. Allahabad is an old city and Daraganj is one of those places where everyone knows everyone else. My shop is just a part of the landscape now. We sell basic things like soap, tea leaves, and sugar. It’s a simple setup with a few racks and a counter where I sit. The street outside is often noisy with people heading towards the river. I’ve seen kids grow up and start coming here to buy stuff for their own homes. The walls have some marks and the door squeaks a bit when you open it, but I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet. I don’t have any employees, just me and sometimes my son when he isn't busy. We keep the shop open through the heat and the rain. People in the 211006 area know they can find the basic stuff here without a fuss. I don't go in for big displays or sales. I just put the price on the item and that’s it. It is a practical business and it keeps the kitchen running. Sometimes we run out of a certain brand of oil, but that’s just how it goes when you have a small storeroom. It’s a humble place, just like the neighborhood itself. I plan to keep it going as long as I can still stand behind the counter.
