Jowat Mahashakti Handloom Natural Printing Producer Company Limited

We are based out of the Dev Sadan Complex on Subhash Margraj Mahal Parisar in Alirajpur. Most people in the area just know us as the handloom group from Jobat. Our full name, Jowat Mahashakti Handloom Natural Printing Producer Company Limited, is a real mouthful, but it basically just means we work with traditional fabrics and natural dyes. This part of Madhya Pradesh has a very deep tradition when it comes to printing and weaving. We have a lot of local people involved in what we do here. It is not like a big factory with massive machines. It is more about using our hands and these old techniques that have been around for generations. The office in the complex is where we handle the boring paperwork and the business side of things, but the real heart of the work happens where the looms are set up. Sometimes the power goes out for hours, or the weather gets too humid and messes with how the natural dyes dry on the fabric, but that is just how things go around here. We try to keep things moving as best as we can. It is important to us that the people in Alirajpur and Jhabua have this kind of work to do. It keeps the old ways from disappearing. We are not big on fancy corporate talk. We just focus on the cloth and the colors we get from plants and minerals. It is hard work and your hands usually end up stained by the end of the shift, but it feels right.
