Samridhi Tea Traders

At Samridhi Tea Traders, we operate out of the Uran Agency building on S. F. Road. This part of Bhaktinagar in Jalpaiguri is always moving, especially with all the trucks passing through. Our warehouse area is usually a bit of a mess with empty crates and samples scattered around. We spend a lot of time checking the quality of what comes in from the gardens. It’s not a retail shop where people come for a single cup; it’s more about the bulk trades. My boots are usually muddy from the yard outside because the rain here doesn't quit easily. We have a couple of heavy desks where we do all the paperwork by hand. It’s a lot of phone calls to transport guys and checking the weather reports for the roads. The ceiling fans stay on all day to keep the air moving so the tea doesn't get stale. We don't have a receptionist or a lobby. You just walk in past the loading dock and find us in the back office. It’s practical work that keeps us busy from dawn until the sun goes down. We just focus on moving the tea from the estates to where it needs to go next. It’s a gritty, honest way to make a living in the tea trade.
