Our place is tucked away at B M B, Jitu Line, over in Jaigaon. It’s part of the Alipurduar district now, though people still talk about Jalpaiguri a lot. The office isn't anything special to look at from the outside. It’s just a practical space where we can sit down and get through the daily tasks. Most of us here grew up around this area, so we’re used to the way things go. We deal with people coming in from the local market and the surrounding streets. It can get a little crowded in the office when a few people show up at once because we don't have a whole lot of room. We spend a lot of time checking numbers and writing things down in our ledgers. It’s a lot of manual work but it keeps us busy. The rain can be pretty heavy around here, and when it pours, the sound on the roof is so loud we can hardly hear each other. We just keep our heads down and keep working through it. It’s a decent enough spot to work. We try to keep the place tidy but there’s always a stack of papers somewhere that needs looking at. Most days are pretty much the same, which is fine by us. We just do what needs doing and help out the locals who stop by with their business.
