Dima Tea Estate

Dima Tea Estate is located over in Kalchini, right near the Kalchini Railway Station in the Alipurduar district. Being so close to the station means we hear the trains coming and going all the time. It’s a sound we’ve gotten very used to. The tea estate is where we spend all of our time, from the early hours of the morning until the sun goes down. It’s a lot of physical work, being out there and looking after things. The weather in Alipurduar can be quite unpredictable, especially when the monsoon hits and everything gets soaked. We just put on our boots and keep going regardless. Our office is a simple place near the police station where we handle the paperwork and the distribution. We don't have any fancy mission statements or anything like that. We are just people who know tea and have lived around these estates for most of our lives. It’s a tight-knit community here in Kalchini, and everyone knows someone who works with tea. We just try to do a decent job and keep the estate running like it should. If you ever find yourself getting off the train at the station, you’ll be right in our neck of the woods. It’s a lot of hard work and not much glory, but it’s what we do and we are okay with that.
