Finding a good spot to work in Aligarh isn't always easy, but we've been here in Jalmalpur near the Badi Masjid for a good while. Rafeeq Interior Designer is really just a small team of us who like to figure out how to make rooms look better. We don't have those big glossy brochures you see in magazines. Usually, we just sit down with a pencil and some paper and start drawing lines. People come in with an idea of what they want their house to look like, and we try to see if it can actually happen. Most of the time, the spaces we work with are old and have their own quirks. You have to work around the walls that aren't straight or the floors that tilt a little bit. That’s just how things are in this part of town. We spend a lot of time visiting sites and talking to the carpenters. It’s a lot of dust and noise, but seeing a room change into something useful is a good feeling. We aren't trying to be the biggest firm in the city. We just like doing the work. If you walk past the Badi Masjid, you can probably find us nearby. We are usually busy looking at fabric samples or checking on some wood. It’s a simple way to make a living, and it keeps us connected to the people here in Aligarh. We don't take ourselves too seriously, just the work we do. We just enjoy the process of creating something new from scratch every single time.
