Our place, Prakash Battery Udyog, is right across from the new bus stand on G.T. Road. Since we are on the main road, there is constant noise from the buses and trucks. It never really gets quiet until very late at night. We’ve been in this spot for quite a while. Most people use the bus stand as a landmark to find us. The shop isn't very large. It’s filled with batteries and tools. You have to watch your step so you don't trip over anything. It’s a bit dark inside, but we have enough lights to see what we are doing. We work with our hands mostly. There is usually grease on the counters and the smell of lead and acid in the air. We don't mind. It's just part of the job. We have a few regulars who come in for their battery needs. We talk about the weather or the traffic while we work. It’s a straightforward life. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just know we are here. If the bus is running late, people sometimes wander over to see what we do. We just keep working through the day. It’s a steady pace. Sometimes we have to shout a bit to be heard over the traffic, but it's just how things are on G.T. Road.
