Maheshwari Smelting

Working near Sasni Gate means being right in the middle of all the local trade. Maheshwari Smelting is at No. 17/175 and it is definitely not a quiet office environment. It is a place of heat and hard physical labor. We deal with metals and smelting so the environment is always a bit harsh and dirty. The walls are stained with soot from the furnaces and the floor is just hard, grey concrete. We do not have any air conditioning here, just a few big industrial fans that move the hot air around the room. It is a local business through and through. We know all the other shop owners around the gate area and we often share news and tea in the mornings before the real heat starts. Our office is just a small partitioned area with a couple of old wooden desks and a very heavy iron safe. We still keep most of our ledgers by hand because it feels more reliable. The sound of the smelting process is a deep, constant rumble that you eventually stop noticing. We have a lot of respect for the men who work directly with the metal. They are the real heart of this place. We just make sure the numbers add up and that the deliveries go out when they are supposed to. We have some old benches in the yard where we sit to eat our rotis. It is a simple, hard-working life.
