We’ve been over here on Street Number 4 in Firdous Nagar for a while now. Most people know the Qila Road area in Aligarh, and it gets pretty busy around here during the day. Our office at House Number 4/275 isn’t anything fancy, just a place where we keep our tools and look over the plans for whatever construction project is currently on the go. There are a few of us who handle the paperwork and the site visits, and it definitely keeps us on our toes. Aligarh has its own way of doing things, and we just try to keep up with the work that comes our way. Sometimes the dust from the road gets into everything in the office, but that’s just how it is. We spend a lot of time talking to folks who need things built or fixed. It’s not just about the bricks and the cement, though there’s plenty of that. It’s more about being part of the neighborhood. We see the same faces every morning when we open up the shutters. We don’t have a big corporate lobby or anything like that. Just some chairs, a desk that’s seen better days, and a lot of maps of the local area. When the rain comes, we have to make sure everything at the sites is covered up tight. It’s honest work, and it fills the day from start to finish. We just take it one day at a time here.
