Ravi Traders

Baramai is a small place, and our shop sits right where you’d expect it. Ravi Traders isn't a big corporation; it's just us handling the day-to-day buying and selling that the local community needs. We open the shutters early in the morning when the air is still cool and the birds are just starting up. Most of the day is spent checking the stock and talking to the people who stop by. We have sacks of goods stacked against the walls and the smell of the warehouse is something you never quite forget. It’s a mix of earth and whatever we happen to be trading that week. We don't use computers much, preferring to write everything down in the big blue registers we keep on the shelf. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just light a few candles and keep working until it comes back on. It’s not a fancy life, but it’s steady. Our customers are mostly farmers and families from around the area who have been coming to us for years. We know their names and they know ours. If a customer is short a few rupees, we usually just tell them to bring it next time. That’s how business works in a place like Baramai. It’s about being part of the village and making sure things are handled right without any fuss.
