Assistant Engg

I live and work out of Vidya Nagar on Ram Ghat Road in Aligarh. My father is Sk Singh, and I’ve been working as an assistant engineer around here for some time. Aligarh is a place where you really have to know your way around the streets. Our area is usually busy with students and people going about their business. I don't have a big corporate office; it’s more of a home-based setup where I handle the technical drawings and planning. Sometimes I have to go out to the sites, but mostly I am here at the desk. The work involves a lot of measuring and making sure the plans match what is actually being built. It’s practical stuff. I didn't want to move to a big city like Delhi because I like it here. Ram Ghat Road has everything I need anyway. The room I work in is full of old books and rolls of paper. It gets a bit hot in the afternoons but the fan helps. I usually work alone, though sometimes I consult with other local guys if a project is bigger than usual. It’s about doing a decent job so the buildings stay up and the clients are satisfied. People know me through my family mostly, so I don't need to do much talking to get work. It’s a quiet life of engineering and I like it that way.
