Amritha Rice Mill

Our mill is tucked away in Vadanamkurussi, which is part of the Palakkad district. If you are looking for us, we are at Menakathpurambil, not too far from the post office. It is a rural area, so things move a bit slower around here compared to the big cities. We have been milling rice for a long time. The building is old and the roof sometimes leaks a bit when the monsoon rains get really heavy, but the machines inside are still running. We get a lot of local farmers coming by with their harvests. There is always a layer of fine dust over everything, no matter how much we sweep. It is just the nature of the job. We start early in the morning when the air is still cool. You can hear the hum of the motors from down the road. It is hard work, mostly lifting heavy gunny bags and checking the quality of the grains by hand. We do not have any big corporate structure. It is just a few of us from the village working together. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait around, which gives us time for tea. We do not do much advertising because everyone in the area knows where we are. We just focus on processing the rice that comes in and keeping the mill going for another day. It is a simple life and we are used to the noise and the hard work.
