Warrier Spices

You can find Warrier Spices at 96, Mullakkal Street in Allepey. Being in Allepey means we are surrounded by canals and the general buzz of the town. Mullakkal Street is a very famous spot, and it’s always crowded with shoppers and tourists. Our shop is just one of many, but we’ve been here for a good amount of time. We mostly handle different spices that grow in this part of the country. The smell of the shop is very strong, a mix of cardamom and ginger usually. We keep the bags stacked up against the walls. It’s not a very modern look, just a traditional shop where we do things by hand. We spend our days talking to people who walk in off the street. Some are just looking, others know exactly what they want. We weigh everything on an old scale and wrap it up. The street outside is noisy with rickshaws and people talking. We like the energy of the market. Sometimes it gets really hot in the afternoon, so we move a bit slower then. We don't have a website or any of that stuff. We just open the doors in the morning and see who comes by. It’s a honest way to spend the day. Most of our family has been involved in this in one way or another. It’s just what we do here on Mullakkal Street. We often have to shoo away the local cows from the front door.
