You can find us at Coir Park in Thiruvizha. It’s an area that knows a lot about coconut fibers, and that’s exactly what we work with every day. The smell of coir is pretty much stuck in our clothes by the time we go home. We make mats and tufted products out of those natural materials. It’s a messy process sometimes. There's dust and bits of fiber everywhere, no matter how much we sweep. But it’s a good kind of work. We’ve got a bunch of machines running most of the time, so it gets a bit noisy in the shed. We don't have a polished showroom. What you see is just the production floor and some basic office space. We focus on getting the tufting right. If the backing isn't stuck on properly, the whole thing falls apart, so we pay attention to that. Most of the folks working here have been doing this for years. They can tell if a batch of fiber is good just by feeling it. We aren't trying to change the world, just making decent mats that last a while. Sometimes the supply of raw husks is low, and we have to wait on the local farmers. That’s just the nature of working with agricultural products. We take our tea breaks together under the shade when it gets too hot. It’s a steady life here in Thiruvizha.
