Sterling Spices

If you walk down Karthikappally Road in Orkkatteri you will find us at number 95. Sterling Spices is basically just a group of us who spend our days surrounded by different scents and big bags of raw materials. It can get a bit dusty when we are sorting through everything but you get used to it after a while. We start pretty early in the morning before the sun gets too high. There is always a lot of grinding and packing to do to get things ready. Most of the people working here live just a few minutes away so we all know each other’s families and what is going on in the neighborhood. We don’t try to be anything we aren’t. We just take the spices, clean them up, and get them into bags for people to use in their kitchens. Sometimes the machinery acts up and we have to spend the afternoon fixing a belt or cleaning out a filter but that is just part of the daily routine. We’ve seen the road outside change a lot over the years but our building stays mostly the same. It is a simple setup with enough space for our supplies and a small area for us to sit and have tea during breaks. We just keep our heads down and focus on making sure the spices are handled properly before they head out the door.
