Sahana Spices

Sahana Spices is right on Muttom Road. If you know Pallippad, you’ve probably walked past us a few times without thinking much of it. We are just a local spice place. We spend most of our time grinding and packing things. The smell is really strong around the building, especially in the afternoons. It’s just what we do every day. My father started this in a small room and then we moved here. It’s not a big factory. Just a few machines and some tables for packing. We get the raw materials from different places and then we have to sort through them to make sure they are clean. It takes a lot of time. Sometimes the machines act up and we have to fix them ourselves. That’s just part of the job. People from around the village come by to get what they need for their cooking. We don’t really do big advertisements. Most people just know us. It’s a quiet life on Muttom Road usually, except when the trucks come by. We try to keep everything tidy, but when you work with spices, dust gets everywhere. You just learn to live with it. We hope to stay here for a long time because Pallippad is home. It’s a simple business. We just focus on getting the spices ready for whoever needs them. The seasons change the way the spices smell too. When it's raining, everything feels a bit heavier and the aroma stays inside. We have some chairs in the corner where we sit when things are slow.
