S. S. Soda

Our place is on Kayamkulam Road in Vallikunnam, right near where it meets K P Road. It’s a spot that many people pass by when they’re traveling between towns. S. S. Soda is basically a local stop for anyone needing a quick drink. We have the usual soda machines and a lot of glass bottles clinking around. The floor is often a bit wet from the ice and the cleaning, but that’s just the nature of a soda shop. We open up early because the morning commuters like to grab something before they start their day. It’s a simple building, nothing that would win any awards for architecture. We just keep the machines running and make sure the gas cylinders are full. Sometimes the machines act up and we have to tinker with them for a bit to get the fizz right. It’s just a few of us here. We don’t have a big marketing plan or anything fancy. We rely on the fact that people get thirsty and we’re in a convenient spot on the road. The evenings are usually our busiest time when everyone is heading home and wants to take a break. We’ve seen the road get paved and widened over the years, but our little shop hasn't changed all that much. It’s just S. S. Soda, doing what it’s always done. Every day feels a bit like the last, but that is fine with us as long as the customers are satisfied.
