Our office is on the first floor. There is no elevator, so everyone gets a little bit of exercise coming up the stairs. It is a plain space with a few desks and a lot of maps on the walls. We spend our time looking at flight schedules and figuring out bus routes for people. It is mostly local folks who come in wanting to plan a trip for their family or maybe a pilgrimage. We have a lot of brochures piled up, though most people just want us to tell them the best way to get somewhere. The fans hum all day long to keep the air moving. It can get a bit stuffy when there are three or four families in here at once. We don’t have a big staff, just a couple of us who know the travel routes well. We spend a lot of time on the phone with hotels and transport guys. Sometimes the internet goes down, and we have to wait a bit to confirm bookings, which can be a bit of a headache. We try to keep things organized, but there are always slips of paper and notes scattered around. It’s not a fancy travel lounge, just a place where we get the paperwork done so people can go on their holidays. We’ve been at this for a bit now and know the local transporters pretty well. We stay here until the evening when the street gets quiet.
