G R S Mechatronics is down in Thumbolly, right near the railway station in the Alleppey district. It’s a quiet enough area, though you definitely notice when the trains go past. We work on mechatronics, which sounds like something from a movie, but it’s really just about fixing machines that use electronics to move. Our workshop is a modest space where we keep our testing equipment and mechanical tools. We handle various types of repairs for local businesses and sometimes take on bigger projects if we have the time. The air here has that coastal feel to it because we aren't far from the water. Most of our day is spent at the bench, looking through magnifying glasses at sensors or trying to get a motor to spin the right way. It takes a lot of patience to find where a circuit has gone wrong. We’ve been at this location for a while now, and the local people know us as the ones to call for the technical stuff. It’s not a huge factory setup; we just work on one thing at a time until it’s right. We usually have a small radio playing while we work to keep things from being too quiet between trains. When we finish up for the day, we just lock the gate and walk over toward the station. It’s a steady, focused kind of life.
