Babu Coir Works

Down here in Alleppey, life moves at its own pace. Babu Coir Works is situated near Thumpolly P.O., and we’ve been part of this area for a long time. It’s not like those big city offices. We have the smell of the outdoors and the sound of the local surroundings all day. Our work involves a lot of manual handling, so things can get a bit messy around the shop. We don’t mind. It’s part of the trade. The building itself is plain, just enough to keep the rain off the materials and give us a place to sit. We know most of the people who walk by. Usually, we start early in the morning before it gets too hot. By midday, we’re usually deep into whatever we’re making. It’s a lot of physical work, and our hands show it. We don’t have a website or anything like that, just this physical location where we show up every day. If someone needs something, they usually just drop by and ask. We handle the orders as they come. There’s no big hierarchy here; we all just pitch in. The floor is mostly concrete and we have piles of raw material waiting to be processed. It’s a simple life, focused on the work we’ve been doing for years in this corner of Thumpolly. We just keep our heads down and stay busy with the coir until the day ends.
