Sangha Textile Development Association

We are based out of Shivani in Akola, specifically care of the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Samitee. It’s a familiar spot for most people around here. Sangha Textile Development Association is run by a small group of us who are interested in the local weaving and fabric work. Akola has a history with this kind of stuff, and we wanted to keep it going. Our office isn't anything to brag about. It’s mostly filled with samples of cloth, some old ledgers, and a couple of sewing machines in the corner. We spend a lot of time talking to the local weavers and seeing what they need. Sometimes we help with getting better materials or finding places to sell the finished goods. We aren't a big factory or a high-end fashion brand. We are more of a community group trying to keep the textile tradition alive in our area. The room usually has a bit of a dusty smell from all the fabric stored around. It’s a very hands-on job, so you won't find us in suits and ties. We wear what everyone else wears and talk the same way. People know they can just stop by the Smarak Samitee if they have questions about cotton or looms. It’s simple work, but it matters to the families here who have done this for years.
