Jamanlal Goenka Dental College & Hospital Akola

This place is out in Babhulgaon, just on the edge of Akola. It’s a pretty large site because we have both the college and the hospital operating here together. You’ll see students walking around with their books and white coats all day long, going from class to the wards. It’s a busy atmosphere with a lot of learning and teaching going on in every hallway. The hospital part is where we see patients from all over Akola and the small surrounding villages. We have rows of dental chairs in the main rooms and there is always the sound of drills or people talking about their care. It’s a bit different from a small private clinic because there are so many people here at once. The building is large and spread out across the Babhulgaon area land. We have gardens around the buildings that the staff tries to keep up with, though the sun in this part of the country is quite harsh for most of the year. Most of our day is spent either teaching the next generation or treating people who have serious tooth problems. It’s a very practical place. We don’t have much in the way of fancy lobby furniture or art on the walls. Everything is built for use and for learning. The students keep us on our toes with their constant questions. In the afternoons, the heat really settles in over the campus. Things slow down just a little bit before the final rush of the day finishes up.
