Our shop, Sundarlal Satyanarayan Gote Wala, is situated on Foy Sagar Road in the Shivnagar area. The address is 898-44. We have been here for a long time, selling all kinds of gota, borders, and laces for traditional clothes. If you walk into the shop, you will see hundreds of rolls of shiny gold and silver ribbons on the shelves. It is a lot of color and sparkle. My grandfather started this business under his name, and we just kept it going. It is a small space, and it gets quite crowded when three or four women come in at the same time to match their wedding outfits. We spend a lot of time unrolling things and then rolling them back up. Foy Sagar Road is a busy area, but our shop feels like a little world of its own. We have a wooden counter that has become smooth over the years from all the fabric sliding over it. We do not have any fancy marketing. People just know us by word of mouth in Shivnagar. It is a lot of patience, trying to find the exact shade of red or green that a customer wants. Sometimes it takes an hour just to sell a few meters of lace. But that is just how the business works. We keep the boxes stacked high and hope we have what they need.
