Siya Fashions is located at 16 Nagina Bag, and it’s a pretty quiet spot compared to the main markets. We started this shop because we wanted something of our own in the neighborhood. It’s not a huge space, but we manage to fit a lot of different styles on the hangers. Most of our neighbors stop by when they need a new outfit for a local function or just want to see what new patterns we’ve brought in. We spend a lot of time talking to the suppliers and picking out things we think people will actually wear. It isn’t about being on a runway; it is about finding something that looks okay and doesn’t cost a fortune. The shop floor is usually a bit crowded with boxes because we don’t have much storage in the back. Sometimes the morning tea gets cold because a customer walked in right when we sat down, but that’s fine. We know most of the people who walk through the door by their first names. It feels more like a community spot than a big retail chain. We keep the doors open from morning until late evening. There’s no big philosophy behind what we do. We just like clothes and we like being part of the Nagina Bag area. It’s a decent way to spend the day, even when things get a bit hectic and the inventory gets messy.
