Mayur Gift House is located near Mangal Market in the Pali Bazar area of Beawar. It’s a very traditional market spot, and it gets incredibly busy on the weekends. My shop is filled with all sorts of things like plastic toys, decorative items, and a lot of colorful wrapping paper. I spend a lot of my time behind the counter cutting ribbons and trying to tape up boxes neatly for the customers. The shelves go all the way up to the ceiling, so I have to use a tall ladder to reach the items at the top. It can be a bit dangerous if I’m in a hurry or if the ladder slips on the tile floor. The floor is usually covered in small bits of paper and glitter because it’s hard to keep up with the cleaning when customers are coming in one after another. Pali Bazar is a noisy place with vendors shouting and bikes pushing through the crowds. I have a small fan that blows air right on me, but it doesn't do much when the heat is really bad in Beawar during the summer months. People come here when they need a gift for a wedding or a local festival. I have a lot of glass items on display, so I am always telling kids to be careful not to touch anything. The shop has been here for years, and the front door squeaks every time someone opens it.
