Jain Ice Parlour

When the heat gets bad in Kesarganj, everyone seems to end up at Jain Ice Parlour on Arya Samaj Marg. We’ve got these big old freezers that hum all day and night. The floor is made of stone and stays relatively cool, which is nice when it’s forty degrees outside. We serve different flavors, mostly the classic ones people have liked for years. I spend most of my shift scooping and wiping down the metal tables. It’s a lot of work on your wrists after a few hours. We get a lot of kids coming in after school, making a lot of noise and trying to decide what they want. Their parents usually look a bit tired and just want a cold drink. We have some neon lights inside that flicker a little bit, but they give the place a certain feel. It’s not a modern cafe with fancy chairs. We have simple benches and stools. Sometimes we run out of the popular flavors by evening, and people get a little disappointed, but that’s just how it goes. We make the batches fresh, so when it’s gone, it’s gone until the next day. The street outside is always loud with bikes and people shouting, but inside it’s a bit calmer. We just keep the freezers running and the spoons clean. It’s a simple business, keeping people cool in the summer. We don't need much more than a working fridge and some good cream.
