Pushkar Road is usually full of travelers and people going toward the lake, and Gallery Arts is right there in the middle of it. I spend most of my day sitting near the entrance, watching the street while I work on things. We have a lot of paintings and small statues crammed into every corner. Some of them have been here for a long time, getting a bit of dust on the frames, but they still look good. It’s not a very big shop, so you have to walk carefully so you don’t knock anything over. The light comes in through the front window in the afternoon and makes the colors on the canvases look really bright. I like the smell of the oil paints and the old wood. Most people who come in are just looking, and that’s fine. We talk about the different styles or how long it takes to finish a piece. Sometimes I’m in the back trying to fix a frame that’s come loose. It’s a slow pace of life here. We don’t have a website or anything like that; we just wait for people to wander in. The fan overhead wobbles a bit, but it keeps the air moving. It’s a nice place to spend the day, surrounded by all these different pictures and colors. We just try to keep the place open and show what the local artists have been working on lately. It is a quiet way to live.
