We open up Dream Leather House every morning on Pushkar Road when the sun is just coming up. Usually, there's already a bit of noise from the Main Market area in Badi Basti. It’s a lot of work handling all these jackets and bags. Leather is heavy and you have to keep it clean because the dust from the road gets everywhere if you aren't careful. We've got stuff all over the walls. People walk in looking for something that lasts, and we just show them what we have on the racks. Sometimes the tea guy comes by and we take a break. It's not a big fancy place, just a shop in Badi Basti. We spend a lot of time oiling things or checking the zips. The air smells like hide and polish, which you get used to after a few days. We don't really do much advertising, folks just see the sign and come in. It gets crowded on weekends when the market is full of people. My hands are usually a bit stained from the dyes by the end of the day. It’s just how it goes here. We close up when it gets dark and the lights on the road start flickering. The fans hum all day long to keep the air moving, but it’s still pretty warm. We just keep the door open and wait for the next person to wander in from the street.
