Chandmal Pokharlal

Chandmal Pokharlal is located in Naya Bazar and that tells you a lot about how we work. Naya Bazar is an old place with narrow lanes and a lot of history in the trade. We don't have a modern office with air conditioning. Instead, we have a traditional space with big heavy doors and high ceilings. The smell of the market, which is usually a mix of grain and old paper, is part of our everyday life. We have big ledgers where we write things down and the desks are old heavy wood that has been around longer than I have. There are always people coming in and out, mostly traders or laborers moving sacks around. It’s a noisy, dusty, and very busy part of the city. We don't have a website or anything like that, we just stay here and do our business like it has always been done. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just light a few candles and keep going. The floor is made of stone and stays cool even when it’s boiling hot outside. We have a small corner where we keep the drinking water in a clay pot. It is not a place for someone who wants luxury, but it is a good place if you want to see how the real market works. We've known the families in the neighboring shops for decades.
